Terms of Use
Plain-English summary (the full terms below control): Steadycase Courtroom Practice is a free practice game for general legal education, built entirely on fictional scenarios. It is not legal advice, and playing it does not make us — or any attorney involved in creating it — your lawyer. The game deliberately simplifies the rules of evidence, and a real judge could rule differently on any call it scores. Use it to build instincts, not to plan a real case.
1. What these terms cover
These terms govern your use of the Steadycase Courtroom Practice game and this website at play.getsteadycase.com, including the game itself, the articles under /learn/, and any downloadable or unlockable content offered here (together, the “Game”). By playing the Game or using this site, you accept these terms.
2. General legal education — not legal advice
The Game is a general legal-education tool. It is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for the advice of a lawyer licensed in your state who has reviewed the facts of your case.
- AlbusWorks LLC is not a law firm and does not provide legal services.
- Every case, witness, party, and line of testimony in the Game is fictional. Any resemblance to real people or real cases is coincidental.
- Playing the Game does not create an attorney–client relationship between you and AlbusWorks, Steadycase, or any attorney involved in creating the Game.
- Nothing in the Game is a promise, prediction, or assessment of the outcome of any real proceeding.
3. The Game simplifies on purpose
Scenarios and explanations are framed around the Federal Rules of Evidence in a general, simplified way. Real courtrooms are messier: state evidence rules differ, local practice differs, and judges have wide discretion. A call the Game scores as “correct” is the answer we consider strongest for that fictional scenario as written — a real judge could sustainably rule the other way, and a different objection might also be defensible. Treat every ruling in the Game as a teaching point, not a rule you can rely on in court.
4. If you need legal advice
Many people can get free or low-cost legal help. Consider your state judiciary’s self-help center, your local legal aid office (find one through LawHelp.org or LSC.gov), or your state or county bar association’s lawyer referral service. If you are in immediate danger, contact emergency services or a domestic-violence hotline in your area.
5. Free game; optional paid packs
The core Game is free to play and does not require an account. We may offer optional one-time content packs for purchase in the future. If we do, checkout and payment will be handled by a third-party merchant of record, and any purchase will be governed by these terms plus any additional terms presented at checkout. Unlock codes for paid packs are for your personal use and may not be resold, published, or shared.
6. License and intellectual property
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to play the Game for your own education. All scenarios, explanations, articles, code, and design in the Game are protected by copyright and remain ours. You may not copy, scrape, extract, republish, or redistribute the Game’s scenario content or articles, use them to build a competing product, or attempt to bypass the unlock mechanism for paid content. “Steadycase” and “Steadycase Courtroom Practice” are trademarks of AlbusWorks LLC.
7. No warranties (“as is”)
THE GAME AND THIS WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE GAME’S CONTENT IS CURRENT, COMPLETE, OR ERROR-FREE, THAT THE GAME WILL BE AVAILABLE OR UNINTERRUPTED, OR THAT PLAYING IT WILL PRODUCE ANY PARTICULAR RESULT IN ANY REAL PROCEEDING.
8. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY OF ALBUSWORKS LLC, ITS MEMBERS, AND THE AUTHORS OF THE GAME, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE GAME OR THIS WEBSITE, IS CAPPED AT THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE CONTENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM (WHICH, FOR THE FREE GAME, IS ZERO). WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR THE OUTCOME OF ANY LEGAL PROCEEDING. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless AlbusWorks LLC and its members from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your misuse of the Game, your violation of these terms, or your redistribution of the Game’s content or unlock codes.
10. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Maryland, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time; continued use of the Game after an update accepts the new version. We will post the “last updated” date above.
